Becker Vineyards

Three acres of lavender fields profusely bloom purple-blue under the Texas sun at Becker Vineyards. Rows of vibrant lavender contrast with the red, sandy loam soil it grows in. This is the Provence-like setting for Becker Vineyards' Annual Lavender Festival.

The event will feature speakers and vendors promoting lavender education as well as herb related products. There will also be gardening tips, cooking demonstrations, wine tasting, and luncheons. Other concessions will be available.

After an emergency stay in the hospital last December, irrepressible trombonist Wilkins came away with kidney damage, prescriptions for expensive medication, diet, and exercise, and instructions to pare down his break-neck schedule of teaching and performance. (Read details here in Gilbert Garcia's column in The Current.) Like many working Americans, Ron is without health insurance. Proceeds from the all-day musical celebration will help defray his family's expenses.

Featured performers for this all-day event include The Jazz Protagonists, Ken Slavin, Small World, Joan Carroll, The Standing Few, Jade Esteban Estrada, Ben King, The Tim and Bob Show, Los Rokmantix, D.C. Bloom, The Hard Bop Project, Morgan King, John Magaldi Quartert, Bett Butler, Danielle King and SkudR Jones, the Regency Jazz Band, and the Ron Wilkins 4-TET.

The Tim and Bob Show should be playing at around 4:45pm.

The Venue-Texas Music Coalition Holiday Party

Kick off that wonderful season with TMC's Holiday Party & Showcase on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 5 - 10 p.m., at The Venue, 800 Lexington. This year's festive event will feature TMC talents Natalie Luna, Jade Esteban Estrada, The Tim & Bob Show (6:30pm to 7:15pm), Confusing Minerva and The Royal Kustoms (fronted by 2007 TMC scholarship winner Matthew Beales). And we hear there may be a special visit from Santa Claus! Our thanks to Nikki Young for organizing this jolly event, which is free and open to the public.
