THE TIM AND BOB SHOW: About Us

Tim and Bob - The "Real" Story

South Philadelphia has always been a hotbed for music -- Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, John Philip Sousa, Willie Nelson, Luciano Pavarotti -- and for musical duos -- Hall and Oates, Johnson and Johnson, Menthol and Yptus, Luciano Pavarotti. So it is not surprising to learn that The Tim and Bob Show first performed separately in Massachusetts and England, and together in San Antonio, Leon Springs, and Leon Valley, Texas.

Over the last 75 years, The Tim and Bob Show has appeared at coronations, executions, criminal investigations, and root canals at a variety of venues all over the world. The Tim and Bob Show’s guitar style is best described as indescribable, while their vocal harmony can most accurately be explained as inexplicable.

Tim and Bob’s music has medicinal value, is part of a healthy diet, helps listeners balance their checkbooks, and promotes a more complete understanding of Robert Altman movies.

Try some today. And then again the following week.

Steve Feinstein -
Lead/Rhythm Guitar, Tenor Vocals, and Songwriter

Steve Feinstein started playing guitar at the age of nine. At his mother’s insistence, he continued playing through his teen years. Steve formed his first band, Stetson, while he was in college in the mid-70s, playing songs by the Beatles, America, Paul Simon, James Taylor, etc. Sound familiar? Steve has continued to play those same songs all these years. He is amazed that people still listen.

After college, while he really wanted to drop out of business and begin his life in music, Steve actually dropped out of music and began his life in business -- Sound dull and boring? (Well, maybe, but it wasn’t). Steve began working with youth in the early 90s and they brought his music back to him. Music bridges many gaps, including generation gaps, and Steve found that those old songs from the 60s and 70s resonated with many of the youth. Steve also played many of his original tunes for the youth at their frequent conferences. In 2003, at the urging of those same youth, Steve recorded a CD of his original tunes, entitled Be. There is a link to hear some snippets from his CD on this website. The Tim and Bob Show play some of Steve’s original tunes live.

Even though The Tim and Bob Show has widened his audience, Steve still plays many of those same songs from the 60s and 70s. Playing alongside Don Hymel, Steve has sharpened his lead guitar skills while helping to create the tight harmonies that are the essence of The Tim and Bob Show.

In real life, Steve is a CPA and is Chief Financial Officer for Conceptual MindWorks, Inc., a locally owned San Antonio company that performs research for the federal government and sells electronic medical records software to health care clinics. Steve’s wife, Kathy, also sings with The Tim and Bob Show. Scroll down the page to read her (short) bio. Steve says, “Thanks!” to all of The Tim and Bob Show fans.

Note: Steve plays a Taylor 814ce, and sometimes a Taylor K14ce, and other times a JR Beck single florentine cut-away electric guitar.

Don Hymel -
Rhythm Guitar, Baritone Vocals, and Songwriter

Don Hymel has been playing guitar and singing in front of people since the 60s. Since that time, the El Paso, Texas native has sung folk, rock, country, blues, and jazz. If pressed, Don will express a preference for Southern, Swamp, or “Red Neck” rock. With the exception of a couple of “guest artist” appearances with jazz trombonist Ron Wilkins, The Tim and Bob Show is Don’s first regular musical gig since he “gave up rock and roll” in 1979. Don was quite happily “retired” from what he calls his “music non-career” until he first started jamming with Steve Feinstein in 2004. Initially taken by the way their voices blended, Don soon discovered that every time he and Steve played, each of them enjoyed the experience immensely. After a couple of appearances in church, the idea for the Tim and Bob Show began to form in early 2005.

In addition to Don’s musical experience, he has acted on stages in England and Texas for a number of years, and is the author of several plays that have been produced [and a couple that haven’t made it to the stage yet]. Don’s poetry, fiction and drama have appeared in several publications over the years. A good sampling of his work was collected into a book he co-authored with Kemp Gregory in 2001: Love, Lies, Linnea, and Lucky Lucifer. To order Don's book from Amazon.com --click here-- or you can buy a copy direct from Don at any of our gigs [and get it autographed too].

In “real life,” Don recently completed a 16-year second career in education assessment, and is now officially retired. Steve tells Don that he should list "Musician" as his occupation on his next Income Tax return. Don refuses to consider this option -- not out of modesty, but because he's watched a LOT of prison movies.

Don's wife, Mary Lou, also sings with The Tim and Bob Show. Scroll down the page for her (short) bio. In April 2007, Don celebrated 30 years of marriage to Mary Lou.

Note: Don Hymel plays a Takamine EAN 10C

Kathy Feinstein - Soprano Vocals, Percussion, and Bass Guitar

Kathy Feinstein is an experienced singer and we are fortunate to have her lend us her voice to sing leads and harmonies. She may look familiar to San Antonio theater goers -- she is a frequent and accomplished actress in community theatre. Kathy won a San Antonio Globe for Lead Actress in a Comedy for her performance in Blithe Spirit. You may also see her shaking hand percussion during performances, as well as playing bass guitar on several tunes.

Note: Kathy plays a Fender Mustang Bass.

Kathy also is responsible for booking our gigs, so if you'd like to hire The Tim and Bob Show for a musical performance, you can contact Kathy right here ---> Book The Tim and Bob Show

Mary Lou Hymel - Alto Vocals and Percussion

Mary Lou Hymel is pleased to make the Tim and Bob Show her first regular singing gig. Like Kathy and Don, Mary Lou is also an experienced thespian and is a theater arts graduate from the University of the Incarnate Word.

Although born and raised in Orange County, California, ML is proud to be a Naturalized Texan.

Mary Lou also takes care of publicity for the group, and is assistant "sound guy" and all-round roadie.
